Welcome to ESB 2027 in Uppsala, Sweden
In this edition of the European Society for Biomaterials conference we aim to specifically explore three important themes currently shaping the future of the field: additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. From the next-generation biofabrication and patient-specific implants to data-driven materials discovery and environmentally responsible materials design, ESB 2027 will showcase how these interconnected areas are redefining what biomaterials can achieve.
Uppsala offers an inspiring setting for this exchange of ideas. As one of Scandinavia’s oldest academic cities, it combines a rich scientific heritage with a dynamic, forward-looking research environment. Home to Uppsala University – which celebrates its 550th birthday in 2027! – and a thriving life science sector, the city fosters collaboration across disciplines and between academia and industry. Uppsala is known for the fact that you can reach almost anyone, any place, or any company within 15 minutes by bike. Its compact city center, historic landmarks, and close proximity to Stockholm provide both convenience and cultural depth for visitors.
The meeting will be accompanied by Sweden’s Dala horse, to symbolize the connection between tradition and cutting-edge technology. Join us in Uppsala to engage with cutting-edge research, build lasting collaborations, and help shape a more intelligent, sustainable, and technologically advanced future for biomaterials!
